Join EmpowerEd and DC Area Educators for Social Justice in person at Creole on 14th to celebrate the power of Black educators in the DMV area with stories, food & drink!

Educators may sign up in advance to be one of our ten storytellers who will share their powerful stories on the impact and challenges of Black educators in the D.C. area. Educators will tell stories that both illuminate the challenges facing Black educators and celebrate the tremendous influence and positive impact Black educators have in our schools.

This event supports the National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action and Year of Purpose campaign seeking to uplift the BLM 13 guiding principles and national demands to ensure safety and equity in our schools. In alignment with the Year of Purpose, this event emphasizes a number of principles and demands.

• It uplifts the February principle Unapologetically Black that reads, "We are unapologetically Black in our positioning. In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a necessary prerequisite for wanting the same for others."

• It also highlights the principles of Collective Value, "We are guided by the fact all Black lives matter, regardless of actual or perceived sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, immigration status or location.
