Strolling Thunder: Advocating for Birth to Three-Year-Olds

On April 30, Teaching for Change staff member Rosalie Reyes, joined families from all 50 states and the District of Columbia as they stormed Capitol Hill for Strolling Thunder to ask Congress to Think Babies! Families spoke to their representatives about what babies and their families need to thrive, including:

  • Quality, affordable child care

  • Time for parents to bond with their babies

  • Healthy emotional development

  • Strong physical health and nutrition

Speakers at the 2019 Strolling Thunder included Matthew Melmed from Zero to Three, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, and families from across the nation.

Teaching for Change supports this campaign as part of our focus on anti-bias, early childhood education.

Last year Washington D.C.'s city council unanimously passed the Birth to Three for All Act. This legislation, if fully funded, will set up children for educational and developmental success, reduce racial health disparities, and create a caring economy that works for all, including raising wages for early childhood educators.
